Promotion Ideas

Promotion Ideas

Below is a list of ways that International Firefighters’ Day might be promoted in your area.

  • Sound your sirens followed by a minutes silence at noon as part of the worldwide Sound Off In Remembrance
  • Local papers and radio running a story
  • Local politicians putting out media releases
  • Advertising in local newsletters – schools, sporting clubs, brigades, etc.
  • Writing to your state’s media and ask them to promote the concept
  • Brigades planning to attend their local church on closest Sunday for remembrance of our past firefighters
  • Local schools producing ribbons for sale at a nominal price to fund raise for the fire brigade or appropriate cause (such as a hospital burns unit)
  • Ribbons available in stores with a tin for donations and a brief explanation
  • Someone from the fire organisation as a guest speaker for other community groups (such as Rotary) and attempting to enlist their help!
  • Street parades for ALL fire services in your town or city
  • Open day at the fire station or a family BBQ
  • Community festivals or picnic at which fund raising can occur
  • Shopping centres adopting the concept and dressing up windows, signs and displays with red and blue ribbons
  • Sending out ribbons to all Brigades and ask them to wear and display them
  • When asked about them they can promote the concept by word of mouth!
  • Firefighter theme days at the local schools
  • Ribbons displayed on antennas, letterboxes, lapels, hair, station towers, in fact anywhere we can!
  • A memorial service on the day for those who have gone before
  • Long service award presentations on the day
  • Inter-brigade / fire organisation “fun” competitions like bucket races (challenging the local community and kids to try and beat you!)
  • Include the date on your Brigade’s annual calendar

These are just SOME of the ideas. You may have others. Feel free to share them so we all may have ways of recognising this day.

Please contact us in regards to any “success” stories that you have as we are trying to keep a record of the growth of “our” day.
