International Firefighters’ Day is a day to remember those firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty and to honor the personal sacrifices and commitment that our firefighters make each and every day. And it is quite evident that these great men and women were more than happy to share their valuable time and experiences with the public during International Firefighters’ Day events hosted by G&L Chili Dogs.

G&L Chili Dogs hosted 7 fire departments at all 5 corporate G&L restaurants in Muskegon and Holland between the hours of 4:00p.m. and 7:00p.m. on May 4th, 2006. G&L would like to thank all participating fire departments for making this day such a success.

In Muskegon, the North Muskegon Fire Department displayed emergency vehicles at 2 G&L restaurants including G&L downtown and the G&L on Sherman Blvd. North Muskegon Fire Chief Steve Lague was extremely supportive throughout the planning stages of this event and surely made this event a success. Firefighter Jeff Hedges and his employer Dobb Printing donated International Firefighters’ Day signs for all 5 G&L restaurants to display at the entrance to the events. To say the least, these signs ignited the interest of passing cars all day.

Muskegon Heights Fire Chief Dave Alves, not wanting to be outdone by North Muskegon’s Fire Department, showing up with their hovercraft and Muskegon Counties HAZMAT vehicle, displayed their 142 Aerial (with a ladder that extends 103 feet) and their truck number 121 (their main front-line pumper) at G&L on Sherman. The City of Muskegon’s Fire Department displayed several vehicles including Engine 23, Engine 25, Rescue 71 and their Command Car. “We want to express our gratitude and thanks to G&L for recognizing firefighters from Michigan and around the world”, stated Muskegon’s Battalion Chief Mark Johnson.

Muskegon Township Fire Department displayed their 240 Aerial ( with a ladder that extends 75 feet) and Engine 211 (mini-pumper). “ All of our fire departments enjoy coming together every fall for Fire Prevention week but G&L’s International Firefighters’ Day multi-store event gave us another wonderful opportunity to build awareness about fire prevention and safety.” stated Muskegon Township’s Fire Chief Dave Glotzbach.

Fruitport Fire Department displayed their Engine 521 (Pumper truck) at G&L’s Sternberg restaurant. Norton Shores Fire Department displayed their 442 Aerial (with a ladder that extends 100 feet), Rescue 473 and Engine 422 (large pumper).

Holland Charter Township Fire Department also participated in G&L’s International Firefighters Day at G&L’s newest corporate store located on Lakewood Blvd. (just west of US-31) in Holland Michigan. Holland Charter Fire Department displayed their Engine 1222 (large pumper), Rescue 1272 and the 1242 Aerial (with a ladder that extends 95 feet). Holland Township firefighter Robert Jaworowski said they had a lot of fun teaching the kids about fire prevention and safety.

G&L Chili Dogs would like to recognize the sacrifices that firefighters’ make each and every day around the world. “It was a privilege to meet and promote these great firefighters’ during International Firefighters’ Day on May 4th, 2006.”, stated Peter Johnson, President of G&L Franchise. “Their dedication to their communities is undeniable.
