On the 4th May, children and staff from Busy Bees Day Nursery in Chippenham dressed up as Firefighters for the day, and were treated to a special visit from the local fire service, as part of National Fire Safety Day.

Wiltshire Fire Service highlighted to the children the dangers of fire. A Fire woman told the children a story about fire safety and taught them some new Firefighter songs. She also gave them with a Firefighter role-play box to enjoy. There were lots of firefighter uniforms for the children to look at too.

Nursery Manager, Jackie Rutt, said: “The Fire woman was great and the children had lots of fun taking part in the exciting activities.

Statistics suggest that 1,500 children a year under 5 are so badly burnt that they are admitted to hospital, which equals 4 children every day, so we feel it’s very important that children understand the dangers of fire and how to stay safe.”
